What is a Feeder Bowl?

A vibratory bowl feeder is one type of system that is designed to feed parts from bulk, arrange each part in the same orientation and present them in an organized way.

If you’ve ever been in a manufacturing plant, you’ve probably seen some kind of automatic parts feeding system. A vibratory bowl feeder is one type of system that is designed to feed parts from bulk, arrange each part in the same orientation and present them in an organized way; either to another automated system or to an operator.

What is a Vibratory Bowl Feeder?

A vibratory feeder bowl consists of a bowl-shaped container with spiral tracks positioned inside. The process begins when parts are loaded into the bowl from a bulk container and are introduced to a series of vibration sequences to vibrate and shake the parts, moving them up through the tracks. As parts move forward the tracks on the inside of the bowl will gradually guide the parts to that they are all aligned. The parts that are not perfectly aligned, will fall off the tracks and land back in the bowl.

Today's Bowl Feeder Technology

Since the 1950’s vibratory feeder bowls have come a long way. Today’s feeders are self-contained systems consisting of a custom bowl design, a vibrating drive unit, with variable amplitude controls, and either a liner feed track or a gravity conveyor to deliver parts one at a time.

Bellco takes a modern approach to feeder bowls and incorporates the latest technology into every system. Our feeders are simple to operate and maintain and include all the necessary components to integrate seamlessly into a manufacturing environment, including PLC controls integration.
